Getting Lost

Stumbled across this track by Dido:  Life for Rent.  Wow, such a sentimental piece.  In my mind, I see some foggy waterside town with not many people.  Some young woman in her mid twenties has lost her way in life and finds herself "getting by" in this town with no names or faces save for the ones that remind her of her past.

But if my life is for rent and I don't learn to buy
Well I deserve nothing more than I get 'cause nothing I have is truly mine

Lost and "Getting by" Somewhere in the World...

Might this be a small-town place the woman in the song has ended up?  Here's what Search had to say about Dido and the song:

Dido's Life for Rent: a sentimental journey for the broken hearted...

I've always thought that I would love to live by the sea
To travel the world alone and live more simply
I have no idea what's happened to that dream
As there's really nothing left here to stop me
It's just a thought, only a thought
This photo came up in my search, some carefree kids along the shores of a beach in Sri Lanka.  The golden colors of its sand are reflecting the fading sunlight.  Thanks to Dhammika Heenpella for posting her work to share via Creative Commons on Flickr.

The liquid gold - Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka

We have our dreams, ambitions and aspirations, but what if where you are right this very moment, is exactly where you are supposed to be?  Before you worry about the places you've been or the places you need to be consider the very place you occupy in this space called now.  Now that's a novel thought...

Injectable Butter Flavoring
I've heard of "butter shots" but this is silly...

I am not sure if the developer of this product researched the implied meaning of "injectable" products to a society that has been actively waging moral war on drugs since as far back as the turn of the century...

I'm being facetious of course.  Flavor injection is actually common in some homes as with large scale food processing plants.

Liquid elixirs with artificial "smoked" flavoring are sometimes injected into the flesh of prepared meats to reduce the amount of cooking time to achieve a palatable flavor.

The Japanese, however, have elevated meat injection to another level.  A search for "Kobe Beef" will reveal a fascinating philosophy on improving the quality and flavor of beef well before the animal is slaughtered.

Whether it's still mooing or if you're already thawing it from the freezer section, injecting things into your food sources for better tasting meals is an odd concept.  Most may attribute "injections" with health care related issues.  Some common slang is "getting your shots" or "I got a flu shot today".  That is ok, but the device used to give the "shot" is NOT a "shot".  It is a syringe, or an injection.  If you're talking about some mass-distributed vaccinations in some remote locations, that's actually an "injection gun".

Untitled - (or: More than Words)

I discovered this song by accident while searching the Internet for love songs and ballads in Tagalog.  It is a ballad about a man who pledges he wants to be together with his love until his hair turns white... (Kahit maputi na ang buhok ko).

There is a subtle reason this blog is called "halo-halo" (mix!mix!).  Here's the lyrics as originally written by Noel Cabangon.
Kung tayo ay matanda na
Sana’y di tayo magbago
Kailan man, nasaan ma’y
Ito ang pangarap ko

Makuha mo pa kayang
Ako’y hagkan at yakapin, ooh
Hanggang sa pagtanda natin
Nagtatanong lang sa'yo
Ako pa kaya’y ibigin mo
Kung maputi na ang buhok ko

Pagdating ng araw
Ang 'yong buhok
Ay puputi na rin
Sabay tayong mangangarap
Ng nakaraan sa'tin

Ang nakalipas ay ibabalik natin, ooh
Ipapaalala ko sa'yo
Ang aking pangako
Na ang pag-ibig ko’y laging sa'yo
Kahit maputi na ang buhok ko....

Na Na Na....

Ang nakalipas ay ibabalik natin, ooh
Ipapaalala ko sa'yo
Ang aking pangako
Na ang pag-ibig ko’y laging sa'yo
Kahit maputi..
Kahit maputi...

Kahit maputi na ang buhok ko

This pic is a timeless reminder of when we married one another.

A Very Good Fortune to Have

Who would think an afternoon at Panda Express over Chinese food would reveal such good fortune?

Your love life will be happy and harmonious. (cookie fortune)
Your love life will be happy and harmonious.

This is a pretty cool tweet. An amazing turnout crowd to receive the Pope.  Now, if only to find my other Catholic friends and family who use Twitter...

A Parent's Wish

I like this thought, attributed to Ann Landers, the American writer, columnist and all-round guru of life problems... thanks Ann! This is a very good point to share to parents everywhere.

It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings.

Making our next generation self sufficient and capable grown-ups.

Who was Ann Landers?

Born on July 4, 1918, in Sioux City, Iowa, Eppie Lederer would eventually come to be known across the globe as Ann Landers via her advice column in the Chicago Sun-Times. Known for her wisecracking yet straightforward advice, Landers' column went into syndication in more than a thousand newspapers. Her twin sister had a rival column, Dear Abby. Lederer died on June 22, 2002.

When the Dinosaurs March In Town

Dinosaur Encounter!

(Kahului, Hawaii)

This last month was a blast.  On one of the weekends, the Queen Kaahumanu Mall (in Kahului, Maui) hosted a "Dinosaur Encounter" event.  Part of their bottom-floor parking garage and the surrounding parking lot was converted to a special dinosaur museum.

There were robotic-animated dinosaurs (complete with sound effects), rides, face-painting, many bouncy castles and some other dinosaur themed attractions!  The admission was a little expensive (a family of four would spend as much as $100 total) but I understood why when I saw the size and magnitude of the attractions!
